Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc Eta Upsilon Chapter Alumnae Endowed Scholarship
Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® Eta Upsilon Chapter Alumnae return to Arkansas State University’s homecoming festivities annually. This year, Eta Upsilon Chapter Initiates meet to celebrate their 50th chartering anniversary (October 1973), during homecoming, and will award their first scholarship during the weekend festivities.
In 2017, Charter Member, Jacquelyn Tabron-Wade attended the chapter’s 45-year celebration, during homecoming, and proposed endowing a scholarship as a perpetual legacy gift to Eta Upsilon Chapter for its 50th anniversary. She shared concern that after freshman year, students struggle to find financial support to continue. There were startling statistics to support students financially through their sophomore and junior years of college. Those present at the Sunday brunch agreed with the idea. Attending this meeting was Kanetra (Fitzpatrick) Staton, a Spring 1992 initiate who agreed to help in this endeavor. Together Jacquelyn and Kanetra spearheaded the endowment initiative. This was truly a collaborative labor of love, and we want to thank all our donors for their generous giving over the past five years. It is our hope that all alumni of Divine 9 organizations on this campus will join the effort to help students complete their college education at Arkansas State University. In March of 2023, the financial goal needed for the scholarship to become fully capitalized was met.
