Donald R. Minx Memorial Scholarship

Donald R. Minx was assistant professor of music at Arkansas State University, and taught from 1954 until his untimely death of March 4, 1982. He was chairman of the Music Department and director of the Marching Indian Band for 24 years. His leadership of the music program sparked a period of growth and national attention through marching band appearances around the country, including the 1960 Presidential Inaugural Parade, which helped provide support to Arkansas State in its successful quest for university status.
At the time of his death, Mr. Minx was serving his eighth term as Ward 3 alderman to the City of Jonesboro. He served as a member of the Industrial and Finance committees of the Jonesboro City Council and was chairman of the council’s Sanitation Committee, and had served as vice mayor of the city. Je was also a former member of the Kiwanis Club, Fire and Police Committee of the city council, City Water and Light Board of Directors and the Jonesboro Airport Commission, and was a deacon in the First Christian Church of Jonesboro. Mr. Minx held numerous memberships in musical, educational and social organizations as well as being a veteran. Mr. Minx was a beloved and respected leader to thousands of college band students at Arkansas State University. To this day, band alumni fondly recall his influence on their lives.
