Dr. John C. Osoinach Sociology Scholarship
The scholarship you are receiving was established in 1995 by Mrs. Margaret Osoinach, in loving memory of her husband, who was a professor of sociology at Arkansas State University. Dr. Osoinach was born in Washington, D.C. and joined the faculty of the then-Arkansas State College in 1963. After high school in Cincinnati, Ohio, he entered Dartmouth College as an English major because of his interest in writing but transferred to Cornel University to finish a degree in home economics, with an emphasis in hotel management. After service in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he wanted to better understand social problems. He began studies in sociology, earning a master’s and then a doctoral degree from the University of Illinois. Before moving to Jonesboro, he was on faculty at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and at Southwestern (now Rhodes College) in Memphis. He retired as an Arkansas State University professor of sociology in 1977.
