Gussie L. Turner Memorial Scholarship
Gussie Jones Turner received her Bachelors of Arts Degree from Arkansas State University with a major course of study in Sociology and a minor course of study in Psychology. Gussie received her Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from A-State in 1975. She joined the A-State Staff in 1987 as an instructor of Intensive English Program in the A-State Saudi Program. She would later become the Student Life Counselor in A-State’s Counseling Center where she provided mental health, academic, and career counseling. Upon her death in 1994 the Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter set up a scholarship in her name to memorialize all of the commitment and encouragement she gave the African-American students on the A-State campus and within the Jonesboro community.
