This scholarship is named to honor Jerre Kent Rorick, D.V.M. who is a fourth-generation equine professional. He is the brother of Pi Kappa Alpha member Kevin Rorick. Jerre practiced equine veterinary medicine over 50 years. He worked at several different thoroughbred racetracks across the country. Those tracks included Arlington Park, Sportsman Park and Hawthorne Park in Illinois and Hoosier Down and Indianapolis Downs in Indianapolis. His love for the horses garnered him a reputation for keeping the equine athletes running at the top of their game. Jerre’s wife, June, worked alongside him keeping up with records administrative details his entire career. Jerre’s brother, Kevin Rorick, is an Arkansas State University graduate and a Pi Kappa Alpha brother. Kevin also worked in the thoroughbred racing industry as a bloodstock agent. Jerre’s love of horses was passed down to him by both of his parents, Elmer and Carmen Rorick. Jerre’s father and both grandfathers trained and cared for thoroughbred horses. His great-uncles trained horses, and great-grandfather provided the military with horses as remounts during World War I. Jerre leaves behind a legacy of equine excellence.
