Ruth Steinsiek Excellence in Education Scholarship

Ruth Steinsiek was a long-time educator in northeast Arkansas. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Primary Education from Jonesboro Baptist College and then her Master’s Degree from Arkansas State College in 1956. She first taught pre-school in Lawrence County then in the Lawrence County Public Schools before teaching at the Demonstration School at ASC. A teacher at East Elementary School in Jonesboro she opened and served as Director at the first Head Start Center in Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro. She then served as Regional Training Officer for Head Start at Arkansas State University before serving as Director of Childhood Services there. She worked in various capacities for each President at Arkansas State. She helps to establish the Epsilon Delta Chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity at ASU in 1951.
