Marlin D. Jackson Scholarship

Friends and family initiated the scholarship bearing the name of Marlin D. Jackson in 1987 as a tribute to the former state banking commissioner, banker and educator. The scholarship became a memorial scholarship after Mr. Jackson’s death in 1998. Marlin Jackson was a 1958 honor graduate of the then-Arkansas State College with a bachelors degree in agriculture. He taught vocational studies at Monette High School until he entered banking in 1960. He served a 10-year term on the Arkansas Board of Higher Education and a two-year term on the Education Commission of the States. A well-known and respected banker in Northeast and Central Arkansas, Mr. Jackson held faculty positions and was an adjunct lecturer at various colleges and universities. He served on the President’s Council at the University of Central Arkansas, the President’s Council at Hendrix College, President’s Advisory Council at Winrock International, and the ASU Foundation Board of Directors. He was past president of the ASU Alumni Association and was a distinguished alumnus of ASU in 1985. He was a life member of the Future Farmers of America Foundation and the Arkansas 4-H Club Foundation. Mr. Jackson was so moved by the response to the scholarship fund from his family and friends that he also made a significant contribution of his own so that students like yourself could benefit from the scholarship as soon as possible. Mr. Jackson once noted, “Without ASU, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I want others to have that same opportunity for a solid education. I truly believe the saying, ’Knowledge represents the triumph of goodness over evil; it is the ultimate victory in life.”
