Ron Carroll Athletic Training Endowed Scholarship
Ron Carroll, who became A-State’s first certified athletic trainer in April of 1976 and served as the primary trainer for the Red Wolves’ football program for the previous 45 seasons, was elevated in 2021 to Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine. Joining the Red Wolves’ senior administrative leadership team, Carroll plays a larger role in the athletics department’s administrative processes, specifically in sports-medicine matters across all of the Red Wolves’ 16 NCAA intercollegiate sports. Inducted into the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Hall of Fame in 2003, Carroll has received a governor-appointed position on the Arkansas State Board of Athletic Training since November of 1995 and has served as the board’s elected chairman since December of the same year. A member of the Arkansas State Athletics Hall of Honor, Carroll continues to enjoy a highly decorated career that has seen him earn numerous honors from organizations such as the NATA, Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association (AATA) and Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (SWATA). Carroll was also part of the all-time 100 Outstanding Staff recognized at the annual Arkansas State University “Distinguished Performance Awards and Service Recognition Ceremony” in 2010 for his significant contributions to the University in its 100-year history. Additionally, he was an honorary member of the Arkansas State All-Centennial Football Team that was announced in 2014. Carroll has worked every A-State football game of his career, a total of 544 contests out of the Red Wolves’ 1,043 all-time games. Carroll is married to the former Vicki Nierdieck of St. Louis, and they have three children – Stephen, John and Kathryn.
