Ron Carroll Athletic Training Scholarship
Ron Carroll, who became A-State’s first certified athletic trainer in April of 1976 and served as the primary trainer for the Red Wolves’ football program for the previous 45 seasons, was elevated in 2021 to Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine. Joining the Red Wolves’ senior administrative leadership team, Carroll plays a larger role in the athletics department’s administrative processes, specifically in sports-medicine matters across all of the Red Wolves’ 16 NCAA intercollegiate sports. Inducted into the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Hall of Fame in 2003, Carroll has received a governor-appointed position on the Arkansas State Board of Athletic Training since November of 1995 and has served as the board’s elected chairman since December of the same year. A member of the Arkansas State Athletics Hall of Honor, Carroll continues to enjoy a highly-decorated career that has seen him earn numerous honors from organizations such as the NATA, Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association (AATA) and Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (SWATA). Carroll is married to the former Vicki Nierdieck of St. Louis and they have three children – Stephen, John and Kathryn.
